Migrant Investment Policy, a NZ Immigration Program Business Category, is a New Zealand residence policy for business people who are looking to reside and invest in New Zealand.

The policy is divided into two categories: Investor Plus (Investor 1 Category), and Investor (Investor 2 Category).

Long Term Business Visa (LTBV) is a three-year Work Visa to provide sufficient time to move to New Zealand and commence your business prior to applying for New Zealand Residence. The aim of this NZ Immigration program category is to attract migrants who have been operating their own business and wish to establish a similar business in New Zealand, thereby contributing to New Zealand's economic development.

To be eligible for a Long Term Business Visa (LTBV) you will need to show that you have:

Business experience that is relevant to your proposed business in New Zealand. If you have not previously operated your own business, that does not necessarily mean that we may not be able to approve your application. We may be able to accept work experience at a senior managerial level in a substantial, relevant business.

Investment funds to provide the capital required for your proposed business, and sufficient funds to support yourself and your family for three years.

A business plan outlining your proposed business, suppliers, customers, proposed marketing, staff, required assets, financial forecasts, how the business will benefit New Zealand, etc.

A good understanding of your proposed business and the New Zealand business environment in relation to your proposed business. This should focus particularly on such matters as demand for your proposed goods or services, the size and nature of your target markets, any legislative or other requirements, etc.

You must be able to provide verifiable documents to support the above requirements.

Employee of a Relocating Company

Employee of a relocating company may also apply for permanent residence under New Zealand (NZ) Immigration Program. Your application for residence must first meet requirements for approval in principle, and you will be invited to apply for a temporary work visa or permit that allows you to come to New Zealand to make the relocation arrangements.

Application of an employee of a relocating company is relies heavily in your role in the relocating company and the business profile as a whole.

You must provide a letter from the CEO of the business that gives the following information:

the name and location of the business intending to relocate to New Zealand

why it is relocating, and how it will benefit New Zealand

a statement confirming that the relocated business will operate within all relevant New Zealand employment and immigration law

Another NZ Immigration program for workers who want to live and work in New Zealand is the Work to Residence program.

There are a number of requirements that you will need to meet for a Work to Residence visa or permit. These are requirements that all applicants need to meet.

To enter New Zealand you must:

be in good health and of good character, and

have a passport that is valid for at least three months past the date you are to leave New Zealand, and

be genuine in wanting to work in New Zealand, and

have the right visa for your visit.

If you are granted a work permit you need to meet certain conditions during your stay:

the work you do must be in line with the conditions specified in your permit

you must obey New Zealand’s laws

you must only stay in New Zealand for the time allowed by your permit.

If you break any of these conditions we may require you to leave New Zealand immediately.

You can be refused a visa or permit if:

you are a person who is not eligible for a visa or a permit under section 7(1) of the Immigration Act 1987, or

you are in New Zealand unlawfully when you apply or

we believe that you are likely to stay in New Zealand unlawfully or

we believe that you would break the conditions we would apply to the visa or permit granted to you.

New Zealand was hit with with a major earthquake today but so far no major damage was reported. Earthquakes in New Zealand are frequent, I'm not sure though if it's the first major New Zealand Earthquake for the year 2009.

(CNN) -- A major earthquake struck off the coast of New Zealand's South Island Wednesday night, rattling residents and prompting a tsunami warning that was later canceled.

The 7.8-magnitude quake generated a small, 6-inch tsunami in Jackson Bay, on the west coast of South Island and a 2-inch tsunami reported in the Tasman Sea to the north of the epicenter, according to the the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

WELLINGTON—A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the southwest coast of New Zealand on Wednesday, US seismologists said, prompting a brief tsunami warning but no casualties or major damage.

The epicenter of the undersea quake was located about 160 kilometers (100 miles) west of the city of Invercargill, on South Island, at a depth of about 35 kilometers, the US Geological Survey reported. It struck at 0922 GMT.

Illegal Recruiter Faces Charges in Manila

Florida Brown, of DSB International Travel Consultant Management Services, is facing charges of large-scale illegal recruitment and seven counts of estafa (fraud) in the Manila Regional Trial Court.

The charges stemmed from a complaint filed by Ariel Bautista, Amadeo Pama, Howard Hernandez, Rosalie Cortas, June Matibag, Rose Marie Ursua, and Arnel Salvador.

The complainants alleged that sometime between July and August 2007, Brown enticed them with jobs in New Zealand as fruit pickers.

The suspect demanded P125,000 from each of them as processing and placement fees, the complainants said, adding that the suspect received a total of P320,000 from them.[Source]

To avoid being victimized by illegal recruiters, always check with POEA if the recruiter is registered and with good standing.

Fruit picking in New Zealand is more of a seasonal job and not necessarily a high demand occupations.

Air New Zealand Staff Have Nothing to Hide

Greater Unpasteurized Cheese Choice for the Kiwis

Cheese lovers will love this news. Locally-made unpasteurized milk cheeses may soon be available in New Zealand under new rules proposed by the New Zealand (NZ) Food Safety Authority (NZFSA).

NZFSA’s technical standards and systems assistant director Scott Crerar says under current food regulations, only a small range of unpasteurised milk products are imported and sold. The proposed rules released today for discussion would allow the production, sale, export and import of unpasteurised milk products that have an acceptable bacterial safety level.

“Many local manufacturers support the plan to address inconsistencies in the law that allow some raw milk cheeses made overseas to be imported whilst domestic manufacturers may not make their own equivalent products,” Scott says. “There is also support for the system from consumers who relish the thought of being able to enjoy a wider range of these products.”

Some unpasteurised milk products are higher risk foods than pasteurised products because they have not undergone heat treatment to kill harmful bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli, which can cause foodborne illness.

The proposed framework recognises some unpasteurised milk products can be produced so they pose a low food safety risk to the general population. However, vulnerable consumers – such as babies and toddlers under three, the frail elderly, expectant mothers and people with weakened immune systems – need to avoid eating them. The proposals include strategies to manage risks for vulnerable consumers by making them aware unpasteurised milk products can pose a higher risk than traditional pasteurised products.[Source]

New Zealand Nursing Council

New Zealand Nursing Council governs nursing practice in New Zealand. The Council sets and monitors standards in the interests of the public and the profession. The Council's primary concern is public safety.

Nurses from other countries may apply for registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council provided that applicants must supply evidence of nursing practice hours for the past three years while registered as a nurse. This must be in written format and verified by their employers. This does not apply to new graduates who have trained within the last year. All other applicants will be assessed on an individual basis.

Apparently, Filipino nurses are still welcome to work in New Zealand albeit previous media reports that NZ is questioning the competence of Filipino nurses.

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino nurses are still welcome in New Zealand, executives of the New Zealand Nursing Council told the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing.

The DFA, which met with the Council’s chief executive Carolyn Reed and registration manager Andrea McCance, on Thursday said the assurance was made following some media reports that New Zealand is questioning the competence of Filipino nurses.

In a statement, the DFA said the executives also expressed regret about the report, which Reed said were based on remarks made by those not connected with either the Council or the New Zealand government.[Source]

Filipinos comprise the second largest number of foreign nurses in New Zealand, with about 200 nurses registered every year.

New Zealand's suspected swine flu cases rise

New Zealand is one the first few countries suspected of having swine flu cases. And in just a short period, the number of suspected swine flu cases had dramatically risen up.

The number of suspected cases of swine flu in New Zealand rose to 136 on Friday, the government said.

The figure was up 25 from the previous day, while the three confirmed and 13 probable cases of the potentially deadly virus were unchanged from Thursday, Health Minister Tony Ryall told a press conference. [Source]

Christchurch, New Zealand

Tougher NZ immigration rules may spell disaster

Hoteliers are not happy the way the Labour Department's approach to temporary visas.Tougher immigration rules could spell disaster for Queenstown, which relies heavily on workers on temporary visas, Queenstown Hoteliers said.

Hotel council chairwoman Jennie Langley said the department had, in just the past few days, investigated the suspension of temporary visas to protect New Zealand jobs.

A survey, presented to the Labour Department in February, showed that of the 2100 worker in Queenstown hotels and adventure activities, 900 were on temporary visas, Ms Langley said.

"That is a big issue for us, both in Queenstown and nationally," she said.

Tourism Industry Association chief executive Tim Cossar said political momentum was moving towards more visa restrictions to protect New Zealand jobs, which was not good news for the tourism or Queenstown.

"There is some degree of naivete that people are just going to move anywhere to get a job. We are already hearing about serious skill shortage in all areas," Mr Crossar said.

The Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 came into effect in New Zealand on May 4, 2007. It requires Immigration Advisers to be licensed.

The Act requires that anyone providing immigration advice has to be licensed, unless exempt. All onshore immigration advisers need to be licensed by the Immigration Advisers Authority by May 4, 2009. All offshore immigration advisers need to be licensed by May 4 2010.

Residence from Work

The Residence from Work category is another way for workers who wish to apply for New Zealand Immigration. It is for people who are already in New Zealand on a Work to Residence permit, and want to apply for residence.

To be eligible for residence under this category, you and anyone else included on your application must meet New Zealand Immigration Program's health, character and English language requirements, and you must meet the requirements for the policy that your work permit was granted under. If you are including a partner on your application, you must also meet requirements for recognition of a partnership.

Work to Residence

The Work to Residence category allows you to get a temporary work visa and/or permit as a step towards gaining permanent residence. Applicants may be qualified in occupations that are in demand in New Zealand, or may have exceptional talent in sports or the arts.

There are various work to residence policies that must be considered, have a quick check first to know which category you mus apply.

Requirements for Work to Residence applicants
To enter New Zealand you must:
- be in good health and of good character, and
- have a passport that is valid for at least three months past the date you are to leave New Zealand, and
- be genuine in wanting to work in New Zealand, and
- have the right visa for your visit.

If you are granted a work permit you need to meet certain conditions during your stay:

- the work you do must be in line with the conditions specified in your permit
- you must obey New Zealand’s laws
- you must only stay in New Zealand for the time allowed by your permit.

If you break any of these conditions we may require you to leave New Zealand immediately.
- You can be refused a visa or permit if:
- you are a person who is not eligible for a visa or a permit under section 7(1) of the Immigration Act 1987, or
- you are in New Zealand unlawfully when you apply or
- we believe that you are likely to stay in New Zealand unlawfully or
- we believe that you would break the conditions we would apply to the visa or permit granted to you.

Skilled Migrant Category

The Skilled Migrant Category is for people who have the skills, qualifications and experience New Zealand needs, and who want to live and work permanently in New Zealand.

To apply under this program, you must meet certain requirements. You need to be aged from 20-55. You must also meet Immigration New Zealand's standards of health, character, and English language proficiency before you start the process.

The first step to apply under this program to submit an Expression of Interest form, in which you tell us about yourself, your family, your skills, and your experience. Once your Expression of Interest is accepted, you will be notified to submit supporting documents.

New Zealand Immigration uses a point system to determine your value of your contribution to New Zealand economy and society as a whole. In order to be included into the pool, you must have at least 100 points. Priority will be given to those with 140 points.

New Zealand (NZ) Immigration Program

New Zealand (NZ) Immigration program has three categories. Each Category has difference requirements in order to qualify. This post is just a summary of these programs. I'll make a comprehensive post about each program on another entry.

Workers. As a worker, there are four ways to live and work permanently in New Zealand: Skilled Migrant Category, Work to Residence, Residence from Work and Employee of a Relocating Company

Business. There are three programs under this category namely: Long-Term Business Visa, Entrepreneurs Business Migration and Migrant Investment Policy.

Family Category. You may apply to come to New Zealand to live if you are sponsored by a family member who is already a New Zealand citizen and/or resident.
